Data Entry

One of the most important skills necessary for data entry keyers to have is the ability to be accurate. Data entry keyers are responsible for taking information from one source and typing or scanning it into a computer for the purpose of generating fields in a database. The data entered may be stored as archival information or it may be used immediately.

Today most industries use computers to store information so data entry is necessary and required in just about every line of business imaginable. Data entry keyers must not only be able to type information without making mistakes but they must also be able to work quickly. The website states that data entry keyers must be able to type a minimum of 45-50 words per minute.

Many employers will test prospective employees on their typing skills prior to offering them a job as a data entry keyer. The test normally provides a sample data entry assignment and evaluates how quickly the information can be entered and how many (or few) mistakes are made using a regular keyboard and a numbers keypad. The job of a data entry keyer is repetitive and often requires a person to sit in front of a computer for several hours at a time.

A college degree is not required for a data entry keyer position but states that a high school diploma is necessary. Many employers will also provide on-the-job training to new employees.

The median average salary for a data entry keyer is approximately $23250 per year.
