Commercial Transport Vehicle Mechanic

A commercial transport vehicle mechanic is considered to be a heavy duty equipment technician or a truck transport and trailer mechanic. Commercial transport vehicles include busses heavy trucks and also large construction equipment. Some of the most important and common job duties that commercial transport vehicle mechanics perform are diagnostic tests and routine maintenance.

Because commercial transport vehicles often travel long distances once they take to the road and they often travel through desolate areas of the country its important that they are in excellent working order to eliminate the possibility of a break down. When problems do occur however commercial transport vehicle mechanics are the ones to identify what went wrong and then restore the vehicle to proper working condition.

There are vocational school programs that provide adequate training and education to get started in this field but most commercial transport vehicle mechanics also engage in an apprenticeship in order to become more skillful. Most classroom-based programs take between one and two years to complete.

When applying for a job preference is often given to individuals who have graduated from an associates degree program rather than those with only a high school diploma.
