Atmospheric Physicist

The most common name for an atmospheric physicist is weather forecaster. The primary responsibilities of an atmospheric physicist are to try and predict weather conditions and trends and analyze the atmosphere as a whole. The atmosphere is the air that surrounds the world and an atmospheric physicist forecasts how the atmosphere will affect the Earths climate in the short and long term.

Predictions are based on the interpretations on information generated from satellites in space as well as land and air stations that exist across the globe. The government and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) employ the majority of the atmospheric physicists in the United States.  Why not consider a career in science technologies?

Some of the information gathered by physicists is used to help control air pollution and the effects it potentially has on global warming forecasting the weather as it relates to agriculture and transportation and helping to predict weather disturbances and natural disasters. While it may be possible to work as an atmospheric physicist with only a bachelors degree it is a competitive professional field and those with a masters degree or doctoral degree are more likely to find high-level positions.

Normal working hours for atmospheric physicists can be long especially during weather emergencies when predictions on the intensity of storms are necessary. However those who work in the research realm normally work regular business hours.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the median salary for an atmospheric physicist is approximately $81000 but salaries can reach well over $100000 per year for those who are highly experienced.
