The job of a clinical pharmacist is multi-faceted. Individuals who choose this career must have a thorough knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs medical procedures and therapies as well as expertise at using information systems and computers. In addition they need good communication skills because they work closely with patients and physicians in advising as to dosage and side effects of prescription medications.

Clinical pharmacists are responsible for overseeing pharmacy technicians to ensure that they prepare label and deliver medications or supplies according to prescription and in a manner that complies with local state and federal laws and regulations. They may also serve as mentors to pharmacy residents during the course of their training.

Some clinical pharmacists follow the path of conducting research where they investigate the best way to administer drugs that will lead to the most ideal result. They often present their findings to health care practitioners taking continuing education courses.
